Our Why... Bitty Balm's Origin Story

We have a lot of new customers and fans and thought I would take a moment to share with everyone my 'Why' and the true value of Bitty Balm.

In November 2023 I took the leap and ordered some very well known multi-use Balms. I had been Instagram targeted for ages, and probably like you I wavered about ordering, leaving my full cart calling my name for months. I finally took what now seems like such a silly 'risk' and clicked the pay now button.

I spend $18 on a salad and iced tea for lunch. Starbucks is $6 for an iced coffee each day. And here I was wavering about spending $20 for a new makeup product because it was 'new" and I couldn't try it in store.

Well my balms arrived and full disclosure, I was OBSESSED. I loved the soft color and shine and the versatility. A little here, a little there. I really did love it.... until I wanted less. I wanted less ingredients, less fragrance, less stickiness, less synthetic dye.

As a mom of budding tween daughters who wanted to try my makeup and experiment and play with it at home, I wanted to give them an option that I wasn't worried about them rubbing into their delicate skin; makeup that was not only safe for them and ME, but that was easy to use and didn't risk powdery blue eyelids and chemically stained pink lips emerging from their bedrooms. Makeup absorbs into our biggest organ, our skin, and full disclosure you don't need any of your makeup to be filled with many of the ingredients that are likely in your current products.

So with ZERO knowledge of cosmetic chemistry, starting a business, running a business, marketing, trademarking, well the list goes on, I ordered ingredients and set to work. As a special education teacher by trade, I have always been a creator and a solution finder and my skills from the classroom definitely helped spur my idea into reality. Thousands of recipes, dozens of different branded ingredients to ensure mica free of dyes, purity of oils, and waxes that softly slid over skin later, Bitty Balm was born. But that is NOWHERE near the end of this story. I have made countless pivots and changes to the formula, packaging, logo, and website. I likely sent Bitty Balm to market before it or I was ready, but I was so very excited and passionate about what I was doing, that I couldn't wait to share it with others.

Why I Believe in Bitty and You Should Too

I don't love Bitty Balm because it is my idea and brand.

• I love Bitty Balm because I hand make every single balm stirring it to the exact temperature needed to blend the ingredients and cooling it back down to pour it perfectly into its tubes.

• I love Bitty Balm because it is smooth. I don't want a tacky, stickyish finish on my cheeks after applying my makeup.

• I love Bitty Balm because it is completely free of fragrance. My entire family, including my mom, sister, and daughters are all extremely sensitive to fragrance and scents. And we certainly don't need our blush, shadow, and lip color to have a scent.

• I love Bitty Balm because it is completely free of lake and synthetic dyes. Synthetic colorants can be irritating and my skin is grateful to have them left out of the equation.

• I love Bitty Balm because it actually the only makeup I now use in addition to tinted foundation and mascara. The versatility from where you can use it to its buildable color make it the only makeup I now need in my arsenal.

• I love Bitty Balm because as an indie beauty brand, I can make any changes that I need to provide a better product for YOU. I get to make the rules and listen to our amazing customers.

So I Ask You This...

I ask that you give Bitty Balm a try. I ask that you actually return to that cart, check out and invest that $20 (less than 3 days of your morning coffee : ) in your skin and health giving it the opportunity that it deserves.  Bitty Balm is actually natural and clean, not just 90% or 95%, 100% natural.
